Gearbox rebuild program saves customers time and money

Case in point

A supplier to a major automotive manufacturer recently had a gearbox stop working. It originally contacted the gearbox’s OEM to see how quickly they could fix it, but the company quoted six weeks. The auto supplier then turned to Rapid Gear, which has earned a reputation for its superior service and speedy turnaround. Rapid Gear went to the customer’s facility on a Monday to complete a quick assessment, where it determined that it could take on the job and complete it in a timely manner. The project included reverse engineering, machining and heat-treating four gears, and sourcing the bearings and seals for the gearbox.

A local millwright company removed the gearbox and shipped it to Rapid Gear’s shop that same night. One of Rapid Gear’s experienced craftsmen started working on it right away, and took the gearbox apart so that the engineering team could reverse engineer the damaged components. Once the reverse engineering, machining, heat-treating and sourcing were complete, the gearbox was rebuilt. It was picked up on Saturday, installed at the customer’s shop on Sunday, and back up and running on Monday. All of this was done in one week’s time.
