From humble origins, Rosta is now an international success

Rosta Inc. has served many Canadian industries since 1988.

Today, Rosta is a worldwide force in technology, particularly in rubber suspension, oscillating conveyors and tensioning. The company provides many quality products from its locations in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Australia, China and the United States, as well as from its Canadian facility in Goodwood, Ontario.

But Rosta did not start out that way; it has grown from modest origins for nearly three-quarters of a century.

In the beginning

The Rosta story began in Switzerland in 1944, when a man named Ernest Rohr, Sr. was commissioned to come up with a simple, efficient solution to support the axles of truck trailers in the village of Staufen. Rohr developed the Rosta rubber spring element, designed to support, dampen and suspend vehicle axles.

This alternative to conventional axle suspension was patented, and the new family-owned and -operated company’s name combined the surname of its founder with the town of its origin.

In 1955, Rosta’s headquarters moved to Hunzenschwil, Switzerland, where it still thrives today. Since 1960, Rosta elements have been the standard in general mechanical engineering.

The company continued to expand worldwide. Its Canadian branch, Rosta Inc., opened its doors in Goodwood in 1988 and still runs as a sales and distribution facility for products that Rosta manufactures in Hunzenschwil. Rosta Inc. uses a wide network of distributors and a strong sales team to satisfy the needs of all end users across the country.

In 1996, the Rohr family sold the company and all of its subsidiaries to the Polygena AG Group. But Rosta has continued to serve many Canadian markets – including the agriculture, construction, food-processing, manufacturing, mining, transportation and wood-processing sectors – with a wide variety of products in rubber-suspension, oscillating-conveyor and tensioning technology.

The Rosta story is far from over. The corporation is an international name that keeps on growing and expanding. It now exports more than 90 per cent of its products and owns six subsidiaries and dozens of distribution partners around the world.
