FRABA’s new manufacturing facility in Malaysia
POSITAL-Fraba remains a major supplier of motion-control products, and its parent company has expanded even further. The Fraba Group has just opened a new manufacturing plant in the Malaysian city of Johor Bahru, which will commence production this spring. The new facility will operate in parallel with the company’s current Polish factory.
With this significant increase in manufacturing capacity, Fraba can meet a rising demand for its solutions with the new plant.
Larger quantities of encoders, sensors
Fraba is experiencing an evolution in its product lineup. To date, the corporation has specialized in a high-complexity, low-volume approach to production that it dubs “mass customization”, tailoring encoders and inclinometers under the POSITAL brand to meet the requirements of machine builders and other specialist businesses. But Fraba now plans to produce larger quantities of kit encoders, Wiegand sensors, and other more recently developed products for large-volume original equipment manufacturers.
Measuring 1,700 square metres, the Malaysia facility will offer a different product portfolio from that of the European plant, but both will use Fraba’s custom-developed digital production control system. From order receipt through assembly and testing to delivery, this system supports every step of the manufacturing process. Using cloud-based computing and data-management resources, the system supports flexible and responsive processes, while ensuring high product quality, product traceability, and competitive prices.
Among the products slated for the new factory are kit-encoder assemblies and Wiegand sensors. The former are minimalist versions of POSITAL self-contained rotary encoders built to integrate with electrical motors or drives. These encoders become compact and inexpensive when separate housings or shafts are removed. Users get accurate rotary position feedback for motors, so they can function as servomotors or feedback-controlled steppers.
Unique units that offer reliable triggering signals that respond to variations in external magnetic fields, Wiegand sensors are also useful for energizing high-efficiency electronic circuits, by harvesting electrical energy from changing magnetic fields. Businesses rely on them in different measuring systems, including fluid meters and POSITAL’s popular battery-free multi-turn magnetic encoders.
With the new plant, Fraba can start serving its customers far more quickly and efficiently.
