The Rosta MB100 motor base

Rosta Inc. has been satisfying Canadian businesses with the peak of machine elements and components for 35 years and counting, having mastered three areas of industrial technology – to wit, rubber-suspension, oscillating-conveyor, and tensioning technology. To assist with tensioning applications, Rosta manufactures products for use with both belt and chain drives.

The company’s torsion spring technology is a simple and effective way to provide tensioning force in both belt- and chain-driven rotation equipment.

Efficient, dependable transmission of power

Belt drives rely on sufficient tension for efficient and dependable transmission of power, and correct tension must be applied and maintained initially to compensate for wear and elongation. Incorrect tension on belt drives is a major cause of reliability issues, maintenance downtime, and low efficiency. Rosta eliminates these problems with automatic belt-drive tensioning from its MB motor bases or its SE tensioners. These models offer maintenance-free solutions that are easy to install, resulting in high-efficiency and reliable drives.

The MB series of motor bases offers a maximum motor speed of 1,000 revolutions per minute and a maximum motor power of ¾ of a kilowatt (kW). Six- and four-pole models are available, as are more than 20 motor-frame sizes. The SE line of tensioners for V-belt drives provides a minimum tensioner force of 22 newtons (N), although Rosta recommends a tensioner force of 44 newtons.

Every chain drive requires a tensioning system to compensate for elongation and ensure smooth, quiet operation. Without adequate tensioning, these drives are vulnerable to higher wear and premature failure. Performance and lifespan can be optimized with automatic tensioning. For this application, Rosta SE tensioners and accessories offer an easy-to-install solution that constantly applies tensioning force to the chain drive with no manual adjustment required and, as with all Rosta products, without any maintenance.

Customers can choose from among standard, oil-resistant, front-mounted, stainless steel, and heat-resistant tensioners in the SE series. The force and deflection of each model varies, depending on the torsion angle (from five to 30 degrees). Number of belts for these tensioners ranges from one to 16, for various types of belts.
