For more than four decades, Chevrier has served industry well

Chevrier’s current status is the culmination of more than 40 years of growth, expansion, and success as a family business.

From father to sons

The Chevrier story began in the early 1950s, when a young Jacques Chevrier had just finished studying commerce at the University of Ottawa. A resident of Pointe-Gatineau, Que., Jacques decided to go on the road as a sales representative. Jacques worked hard over the years, and by the end of the 1960s, he was already the sole Quebec representative of Baker Instruments, based in Montreal. Baker was an Ontario supplier of industrial test and measurement tools.

It was at about this time that Jacques Chevrier met Pierre Ménard, a professor of instrumentation. Ménard taught him about calibration and repair of measurement tools in detail. With the assistance of Ménard and his wife, Madeleine, Jacques was ready to take the biggest risk of his career in 1975: founding his own distribution company.

The new business became known as La Cie. J. Chevrier Instruments Inc. when it was incorporated in its third year. As the company grew, Jacques hired his sons, Denis and Pierre, to repair manometers as they continued school. Their younger brother, Marc, also joined the company after he graduated from business school. The Chevrier family had three generations working for the company in late 2011, when Denis’ daughter Catherine was hired.

Although Jacques Chevrier passed away in 2015, his legacy lives on through the business that bears his name. His family is still continuing the tradition he started: Marc Chevrier now serves as the company’s general manager, while Denis Chevrier is the technical director. This entire time, Chevrier Instruments’ top priority has never changed – to provide top measurement tools, services, and technical support from skilled, cordial staff.
