vision sensor

Festo’s latest vision sensor, the economical SBSI, provides quick and easy installation and commissioning.

Festo Canada’s new, economical SBSI standard vision sensor provides fast and easy installation and commissioning – even for a user without any expert knowledge in industrial vision systems. Festo has fully integrated everything needed for optics, lighting, evaluation, and communication into the versatile SBSI.

A high-performance code reader

The SBSI can perform a wide range of basic applications in automotive-parts manufacturing, assembly functions, and handling tasks. In small-parts assembly, for instance, one can use the device to detect the presence of head and seal or to perform other completion checking. The SBSI is also a highly reliable choice for checking filling levels, confirming the presence of a cover, doing label or marking or completeness checks, and other common production applications in the food-processing and pharmaceutical industries. It can be used just for reading codes or for carrying out simple quality inspections.

Users can commissioned each model of these all-in-one Festo devices in three simple steps:

  • Adjusting the image with automatic functions;
  • Selecting the detectors; and
  • Defining the output.

No special expertise in vision systems is necessary to follow these steps – this vision sensor can be commissioned and ready for use immediately.

One variation of this vision sensor, the SBSI-B, can function as a high-performance code reader for 1D or 2D codes or even for data matrix codes that are difficult to read. Another model, the SBSI-Q, is an object sensor that can carry out simple quality checks. Various focal lengths, image areas, and lighting colours are available for different SBSI models. Users can directly connect external lighting to the product by using a model SBAL external light, which employs Festo plug and work.

Another major benefit of the SBSI series is the wide range of communication options: Ethernet, PROFINET, Ethernet IP, and RS232/RS422 for the code reader and I/O (two inputs, four outputs, two selectable input/outputs). Users can integrate the sensor into virtually any control system.
