Festo’s new series of pneumatic inch cylinders is robust and reliable

Festo has launched its own family of U.S.-made, inch round-body pneumatic cylinders – the DPRA series – to give OEM and MRO customers a high-quality, direct replacement option for the non-repairable round body inch cylinder type used widely in North America.

The DPRA series of round-body pneumatic cylinders is the newest addition to the Festo Canada product family. These are American-made cylinders that give equipment manufacturers a high-quality, direct replacement for non-repairable, round-body inch cylinders. Robust, reliable, and priced competitively, these units are built for a long service life. They are among the first Festo-branded products made by Fabco-Air since Festo acquired the manufacturer last year.

A long, trouble-free cycle life

Fabco-Air has built these pneumatic cylinders with 304 stainless steel housing and 303 stainless steel piston rods, as these materials offer better corrosion resistance than the standard carbon steel does, even in harsh conditions. The DPRA series also has low-friction U-cup seals that are inherently wear-compensating for a long, trouble-free cycle life, plus premium lubrication for maintenance-free performance and full ports and cross slots for fast response and total force performance. The sintered bronze Rod bushing is impregnated with oil for low friction, while supporting a high load-bearing capacity and ensuring high wear characteristics to keep performance high over time.

Although many North American manufacturers are now using metric cylinders, there is still a large demand for inch sizing. Festo is a world leader in designing and producing metric cylinders, including the round-body DSNU. Small round-body cylinders are popular in the electronics and assembly sectors, for their ability to fit into tight spaces on compact machines that perform tasks like loading or positioning PCBs, clamping, testing, and relay production; they are also useful in end-of-line packaging for functions like sorting or flipping gates on a conveyor. These products are typically preferred when small diameter, easy installation, a stroke of less than a foot, or lighter weight is required. DPRA pneumatic cylinders covers all these areas and more.

The series is available in five variants, with seven bore sizes, eight configuration options, and sensor and mounting accessories. Cushioning options will also be available early next year. As with all members of the Festo core product range, the DPRA series is always delivered to the customer in no more than five days.
