The latest innovation from Festo Canada is Electric Motion Sizing, a free online productivity tool for error-free sizing of linear and rotary electromechanical systems. This solution slashes the engineering time needed for identifying and specifying harmonized electric motion systems, compressing hours of work down to minutes.

Machine builders require solutions for such applications as pressing and position handling to bring products to market more quickly, with less engineering and purchasing overhead. Electric Motion Sizing gets the job done.

Fast selection of servo drives

Offering similar advantages as the Festo Handling Guide Online, this tool gives users a choice of perfectly dimensioned options for electric and electromechanical drive components in minutes. Operators input key parameters like mass, stroke, travel distance, and cycle time, and Electric Motion Sizing performs the complex mass moment of inertia calculations. In real time, the tool identifies the combination of components most suitable for the application parameters, presenting up to five optimum solutions and motor curves for consideration. Interoperability is not an issue, as the specified components work together. Designers can fine-tune the selected system by selecting encoder type, brake, and mechanics.

After selection, the Electric Motion Sizing tool transfers the chosen combination of components to the Festo online shop, together with commissioning files. The online shop offers pricing and delivery information. The seamless process from configuration to order saves more time for the user.

For simplified, accelerated commissioning, Festo has also incorporated Electric Motion Sizing into the Festo Automation Suite. Users can commission a diverse array of products – including remote IO, pneumatic valve terminals, PLCs, and servo drives – through a single free tool with the downloadable Festo Automation Suite, which automatically connects to the Festo cloud to download project-specific documentation and updates within the software.
