Festo took its standard double-acting ADN compact pneumatic cylinder and shrank it significantly to create the ADN-S. This lighter-weight, ultra-compact cylinder is ideal for performing tiny tasks in tight quarters.

A spinoff of the standard Festo Canada double-acting ADN compact pneumatic cylinder, the new space-optimized ADN-S is a lighter, super-compact option that is the perfect pick for conducting tiny tasks in tight spaces. The manufacturer has shrunk the ADN pneumatic cylinder substantially to create a unique space saver, which enables small movements in confined quarters – helping machine designers to make their projects as space-efficient as they can.

Ideal for testing cell-phone keys

To produce the ADN-S, the Festo team simply took the ISO-standard ADN double-acting cylinder and reduced the housing length, resulting in a much smaller, lighter, and competitively priced option for space-critical work in minimal fitting spaces. This compact cylinder is smaller than other double-acting units of its kinds, which makes it an ideal option for testing cell-phone keys and similar space-limited applications.

The compact cylinder comes with a magnetic rod for position sensing, as well as various mounting options and a choice of fixed or no end-position cushioning; one may even add a proximity sensor. Internal or external threading is available for the piston rod, in diameters from six to 60 millimetres (mm) and standard strokes from five to 50 mm. Festo offers a variant for lithium-ion battery manufacturing, with only trace levels of copper, zinc, and nickel – metals that cannot be the main constituent of devices used in these tasks.

To meet the demand for small drive components, the ADN-S echoes the DSNU-S round cylinder in that it functions with the same reliability, consistency, and durability as do the larger cylinder from which it is derived. The key advantage is a smaller system with better performance, a rare balancing act in this field. The cylinder provide exceptional performance with small movements in one-piece, compact housing.

Like the ADN, the DSNU-S, and similar products, the ADN-S is part of Festo’s core range. This is a group of popular items that are always in stock in North America, ready to deliver quickly. Festo remains the world’s top supplier of automation technology and technical education, meeting the challenges of digitization and smart production.
