Festo’s new MS2 compressed air and filter regulators are the smallest and lightest regulators on the market – small and light enough, in fact, to be installed right on moving components in dynamic applications like end-of-arm tooling.

The newest innovation available from Festo Canada is the MS2 line of regulators – the smallest and lightest regulators available anywhere. Two models are available: the MS2 compressed-air regulator, which weighs between 28 and 31 grams, and the MS2 filter regulator, weighing from 35 to 38 grams. Both of these devices have a width of 28 to 31 millimetres, depending on whether an M5 or QS6 connection is being used.

Delivering superior control performance

The smallest member of the Festo MS family of standard service units, the MS2 compressed-air regulator is about half as wide and half as heavy as a tennis ball. The prime advantage of the small size and ultra-light weight is that the user can install the unit directly on moving components in dynamic applications like end-of-arm tooling, making the task extremely responsive and enabling close-up air management. They are ideal for performing tasks like force reduction in gripping and front-end applications, or in small-parts assembly in the electronics industry.

With their light weight, these regulators have virtually no effect on the kinematics of the machines or systems on which they are used, and their optimized design helps them to deliver superior control performance.

Festo has constructed these service units out of state-of-the-art polymer materials that make them rugged, and they offer a top flow rate for diminutive products, at 350 litres per minute for the pressure regulator and 310 litres per minute for the filter regulator. The latter device can filter particles down to a size of five micrometres. Users can connect tubing with an outside diameter of six millimetres directly to the MS2 when they employ QS6 connections, and no additional push-in fittings are required, which further lowers the costs of installation and reduces the needed space.

MS2 regulators have already been used for testing, gripping, and handling applications within Festo’s own manufacturing plants worldwide, but only now is the company starting to offer these products to its global customer base. Like all other groundbreaking Festo technological solutions, these two regulator models are priced competitively and stocked locally for quick delivery to customers.
