The advanced flow control provided by the software-driven Festo Motion Terminal VTEM makes the pneumatic setup for imprinting rubber layers in tire manufacturing a lot simpler.

The new Motion Terminal VTEM from Festo Canada is a breakthrough in digitalized pneumatics, which is set to transform factory and process automation. This groundbreaking device can simplify and optimize many applications from a design, operational, and cost perspective in virtually any industry that involves pneumatics, such as tire manufacturing.

As the worl’s first valve to be controlled by apps, the VTEM renders obsolete more than 50 components required in conventional pneumatic setups.

A simpler, less expensive process

With this motion terminal, businesses can significantly improve almost any application that requires a valve terminal, as converting the task to digitalized pneumatics makes the process simpler and less expensive. The VTEM performs the application with half the number of valve slices, as opposed to individual proportional valves. Users can set up 16 independent pressure zones with the terminal’s software Motion Apps, most effectively with the model-based pressure control. The Ethernet-based fieldbus connection interfaces with standard industry controllers, and one valve type can perform multiple functions. The device also uses less installation space, as a valve slice can control two valve outputs independently of each other.

Another key advantage of digitalized pneumatics is less time and money spent on design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and procurement. Production change takes far less time, with a computer (rather than shop technicians) making adjustments quickly by app. By making a pneumatic application self-optimizing and self-diagnosing, Motion Apps decrease energy consumption and create a true preventive-maintenance platform.

The Motion Terminal VTEM promises to be a boon to machine and plant designers who can take great advantage of the device’s benefits in new products and installations – such as enhancing productivity and profitability with its unparalleled flow control and quick changeover capabilities. Other notable features include great knowledge protection, the highest possible level of standardization, a blend of electric and pneumatic technologies, and leakage detection.

With the new VTEM, Festo is revolutionizing digitalized pneumatics while opening up a radical new world in automation technology. As a single piece of hardware for all functions, the VTEM offers a whole new level in flexibility.
