Festo has teamed up with Humber College to provide necessary technical training.

Internationally respected technological pioneer Festo provides technical-education equipment and training through Festo Didactic, its educational division. Last year, Festo Didactic solidified its Toronto presence by launching a five-year partnership with Humber College to deal with the skills gap between the needs of Canadian industry and educational programming.

The Workforce Development Training Program has made Humber the exclusive postsecondary partner in the Greater Toronto Area for hosting Festo Didactic’s proprietary training courses. The agreement between Festo and Humber also includes the pending establishment of English Canada’s first Cyber Physical Factory.

Internship opportunities in Germany

Festo Didactic uses this program to give people the opportunity to learn the required Industry 4.0 skills for today’s rapidly changing economy, complete with hands-on training. Both Humber students and manufacturing employees are learning about clean technology, renewable energy, robotics, Internet of Things technology, and cloud computing.

The Workforce Development Training Program also creates opportunities for Humber students to work as interns at Festo’s world headquarters in Germany, getting valuable head starts in automation and manufacturing careers. It also spurs easier paths to employment at Festo’s Customer Interaction Centre in Toronto. The program not only offers training, professional development, and certification, but also engages young Ontarians with opportunities in a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics outreach program.

The Cyber Physical Factory will be housed in the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation. This facility will be a comprehensive, expandable model that will allow manufacturers and researchers to take part in high-tech industrial simulations about production, logistics, and quality control.

By helping students gain the skills they need for automation and manufacturing employment, while allowing current workers in the field to upgrade their skills, the Workforce Development Training Program will create a new generation of manufacturing professionals ready to take on future technological innovations.

“We look forward to a collaboration that leads to a world-class automation and learning systems centre at Humber,” says Festo Didactic CEO Thomas Lichtenberger. “Festo Didactic values Humber’s vision for the future of technology.”

“This partnership brings the future of Learning Systems education to Humber,” says Humber president Chris Whitaker.
