The growing desire for consumers to have custom-designed products, and a broader range of individual product options, has given rise to a new world: digitalization. At the same time, however, cost-efficiently manufactured and rapidly available mass-produced goods are needed to cater to the quickly growing world population. Festo is poised to meet both needs with its hybrid strategy.

Festo’s plan

Manufacturers must find ways to fulfil requirements for both individualized and mass-produced offerings. Dealing with this complexity and the increased speed of developments is a great challenge. But it’s a challenge that Festo is facing head on. The leading supplier of automation solutions for factory and process automation is advancing in two directions: the evolution of standard products, and the development of revolutionary products for the future.

Evolving standard products

Festo is focusing its innovative power on the development of new products for the more rapid, simplified manufacture of bulk goods, but is also advancing digital penetration within the company to benefit from the advantages of Industry 4.0. For Festo, this means investing in the infrastructure to secure lasting added value. The company has established one of the world’s most modern production lines at the Technology Plant in Scharnhausen, Germany. Thanks to its modular structure, this facility is prepared for fully automated high-volume production and for highly flexible production in small batches.

Revolutionary products

The leap into the future cannot be achieved by evolution alone. New concepts must be introduced and new products developed. Festo relies here on agile, interdisciplinary teams comprised of hardware and software developers who are, for example, revolutionizing mature technologies such as pneumatics with entirely new capabilities. Festo uses its Bionic Learning Network to transfer new technologies, such as swarm intelligence, communication capability and autonomy, to new technological systems in the form of prototypes.

The ideal showcase

The Hannover Messe trade fair in Germany is the ideal venue for Festo to present its latest innovations. Known as the world’s leading industrial show, the event is taking place from April 24-28, 2017. To learn more about its hybrid strategy, visit Festo at Hannover Messe in Hall 15, Stand D11.
