FEIN and Bosch launch universal mounting system

Two industry powerhouses have joined forces to develop a universal tool mounting system that offers users a standardized solution. FEIN and Bosch, global market leaders for oscillating power tools, have announced the availability of their jointly developed Starlock mounting system, giving users a uniform standard, even better performance, faster work progress and more precise results than ever before. 

Fulfilling a need

Tool mounting plays a critical role in the speed and accuracy of oscillating multi-tools because oscillating tools only perform reliably and efficiently if the power of the motor is transferred to the saw blade or other accessories with as little backlash as possible. However, there are many options on the market and, until recently, none of them ensured maximum power transmission.

“Users have to accept performance losses when using an adapter. That’s where the new Starlock tool mounting comes into play,” says Willi Fellmann, responsible for the co-operation project at Bosch. 

With the introduction of this new mounting system, FEIN and Bosch have created a joint standard that ensures maximum power transmission. The patented Starlock mounting system works reliably with oscillating power tools made by both FEIN and Bosch, as well as with tools from other manufacturers with 12-point mounting. In addition, the available accessories, which ensure even better performance than previous systems thanks to their three-dimensional geometry, are compatible with most machines on the market.  

“While developing the Starlock tool mounting, we — as inventors of oscillating power tools — deliberately chose a different approach than before,” explains Rainer Warnicki, department manager for product development at FEIN. “The joint project combines the expertise of both brands. We are absolutely certain that Starlock will establish itself as the system standard on the market.”

Three power classes available

The accessories with Starlock tool mounting will be available under the FEIN and Bosch brands starting in January 2016. FEIN and Bosch are offering three power classes — Starlock, StarlockPlus and StarlockMax — which ensure that only accessories suitable for the respective power of the machine can be mounted. 

In the upcoming months, FEIN and Bosch will introduce new power tools with Starlock mounting.
