End-of-arm tooling is integrated with overhead lifting equipment such as hoists, process arms, rigid column manipulators and workstation arms. This tooling is used in a variety of applications, including automotive manufacturing, workstation assembly, packaging, palletizing, conveyor systems, work holding, material transfer and picking parts.

An understanding of the application is key in determining what tooling integration system is right for you. Consider the following factors:

1. The weight of the load;

2. The type of attachment to the load;

3. The lifting motion and process; and

4. The ergonomic factors related to operation of the equipment.

Rigid column manipulators, for example, are ideal for offset load applications. Vertical travel requirements combined with changes in part orientation are easily handled with end-effector tooling mounted to the rigid mast. The rigid column can be suspended from overhead rails or bridge systems, providing area coverage for the process.

Process arms, meanwhile, are ideal for extended reach applications, providing extended reach and control of the load through the articulating arm structure and traveling carriage. End-of-arm tooling provides control for attaching, manipulating, positioning and release of the load.

Options include clamps, I.D. grippers, magnets, vacuum attachments and more.

Engineered Lifting Systems, based in Elmira, Ont., offers tooling integration that includes systems planning, design and implementation, as well as on-site training for operators. The company's design and manufacturing teams work together with the customer to ensure the tooling meets the necessary requirements of the lifting application.

Design solutions are certified by on-staff professional engineers to comply with all applicable regulatory codes and established engineering standards for mechanical, electrical and structural elements.
