To help keep abrasive debris from entering the critical pin-bushing area in chains, Tsubaki has developed unique seal designs for its chains. The result is reduced wear and elongation and, ultimately, a longer service life.

Seal design options

Tsubaki offers several types of seals to meet the needs of different chains, applications and industries, from the cement, mining and paper sectors, to the sugar, grain and asphalt markets.

1. In the extended bushing barrier seal design, chain bushings are extended beyond the inside sidebars. This minimizes the clearance between the outside bars and the bushings, which creates a solid barrier that stops abrasive material from getting in.

2. Polymer wide face seals, which are made from a high temperature engineered polymer, encircle the extended bushing. This design provides a particulate-resistant barrier to help protect the joint and minimize contamination.

3. The stainless steel internal ring seal is a patent-pending design. This seal tightly holds onto the pin and rotates within a groove in the bushing, which prevents debris from getting into the pin-bushing area.

More options

In most cases, these seal options can be incorporated individually or in combination on chains of different sizes. For those customers not sure which chain and seal design option is most appropriate for their application, Tsubaki can help find the best solution.
