Expansion joint replaced after 26 years in service

The application

A scrubber slurry piping system at a Wyoming coal fired power plant settled over the years, which caused a breach opening to lengthen approximately 1-¼ inches from the installed opening. This amount of additional opening caused the rubber to separate from the reinforcement ply on the outer cover of the expansion joint. During a preventative maintenance period, the plant’s team replaced the aged expansion joint with a new one before a failure occurred. The HOLZ team helped the customer by providing technical assistance and supplying the new high-quality expansion joints in place of the original expansion joint it supplied 26 years ago.
