Exel North America helps custom cabinet maker improve finishing process

Superior Cabinets, a manufacturer of custom kitchen cabinets based in Saskatoon, Sask., was looking to improve its environmental health and safety, reduce waste, improve product quality and increase productivity, all while making its finishing process simpler. It was a tall order. Fortunately, the company turned to Exel North America for help.    

Exel manufactures the Kremlin Rexson brand of spraying and finishing equipment and powder coating systems. Superior Cabinets had been using Kremlin Cyclomix Systems on its primary Cefla flat line to dose, mix and continuously deliver the paint to its custom cabinets. Its previous equipment also included 16-120 pumps and ATX automatic spray guns for its flat line.

The new system, designed to help Superior meet its environmental, quality and productivity goals, includes:

• One Cyclomix Expert PH;
• One Cyclomix Micro PH;
• Seven 16-120 pumps;
• One 20-50 pump;
• One 55-gallon agitator;
• Six five-gallon agitators; and
• Four ATX guns.

Sherwin Williams, the coating supplier, has agreed to deliver a set per cent of cost reduction each year as long as Superior Cabinets implements process improvements, coating product innovation and technology, like its new system from Exel North America.

The result: Superior Cabinets realized a 31.8 per cent reduction in coating cost per box after implementing the new system.
