Ohio Broach's versatile skills enable its staff to tackle a variety of projects.

The Ohio Broach & Machine Company has more than six decades of experience in broaching services, and demand for its talents has never let up. The company has grown extremely versatile in its broaching skills, cutting and crafting metal objects into just about any shape a customer desires. From hand tools to medical implants and more, Ohio Broach has earned a reputation in the industry for its ability to work with diverse applications.

An essential aspect of manufacturing

Broaching is an essential aspect of manufacturing for many products these days, and Ohio Broach has what it takes for virtually any request. Here are ten examples of projects achievable by the company:

  • Medical implants. Ohio Broach once broached stainless steel surgical implants in a two-pass operation, on a machine that allowed for varying lengths.
  • T-shaped slots. The company can cut “T” shapes into brass, steel, and copper machine parts.
  • Hexes and squares. “On the fly” broaching helps the Ohio Broach team cut drill bits and other tools into squares and other shapes.
  • Shaft slots. The company once broached slots in three transmission shafts on a patented shuttle in-feed table.
  • Internal broaching. Traditional broaching, which means cutting key ways, splines, grooves, or squares into brass, copper, steel, or aluminum.
  • Teeth and serrations. Ohio Broach can cut gear teeth of any size.
  • Cutting teeth. Broaching applications make it easy to cut teeth into cutting or sawing tools. For example, Ohio Broach once used “on the fly” broaching to produce perfect triangular teeth on pocket-knife saw blades.
  • Irregular shapes. Broaching can create slots, angles, key ways, and radii in most materials, especially steel.
  • Cast iron. Items like cast ductile-iron motor mounts can be processed in one pass, through surface or internal broaching.
  • Hand tools. Many customers turn to Ohio Broach for broaching wrenches, medical hemostats, pliers, and other hand tools. Surface broaching is applicable to plier jaws or wrenches’ open ends, and box ends on wrenches can be broached internally and joint areas on hemostats can be straddle-broached.
