WAGO’s EPSITRON electronic circuit breakers, available in Canada from Wainbee

Wainbee Limited supplies many types of automation equipment that heighten machine safety – a crucial need in today’s industrial world, where machine breakdowns can be costly in terms of downtime and lost revenue. One notable product in this category is WAGO’s EPSITRON line of electronic circuit breakers, or ECBs.

Blending a high switch-on capacity with an electric relay, these space-saving WAGO ECBs are recommended for applications that require machine safety and a high ratio of price to performance.

Reliable protection against short circuit

EPSITRON electronic circuit breakers have many advantages. Not only do they provide reliable protection against short circuit and overload; they also allow for activation of high-capacity loads of 50,000 microfarad or more with no need to raise the nominal current setting. With four different models ranging from one to eight channels and current ratings from ½ to 12 A, users get high flexibility for setting the nominal current for specific applications.

These ECBs save a lot of space in control cabinets with their compact size – with widths no more than 45 millimetres – and their high channel density. Wainbee can also provide devices with active current limitation, which stops the power-supply units from overloading during short circuits.

WAGO electronic circuit breakers operate by verifying that the output current is greater than the nominal one. When the former exceeds the latter, a semiconductor switch turns the output off electronically. The trip time depends on the overcurrent’s magnitude, and a microprocessor measures the output current, processing, and calculation of the tripping time, as it actuates the semiconductor switch and monitors at least one output channel.

Other notable benefits of using the WAGO EPSITRON ECB:

  • ability to switch off secondary-side overcurrents and short circuits precisely, quickly, and repeatedly;
  • selectivity, particularly with its active current limitation;
  • remote operation through digital input and output;
  • readout functions via serial data transfer, through digital input and output;
  • savings of more than 70 per cent of installation space, compared to miniature circuit breakers; and
  • nominal current assignable for each channel.
