female representation

Dr. Zoe Reeve, chairperson of the Canadian W.I.N. committee – a global corporate initiative created by the Endress+Hauser Group’s Executive Board.

As a leader in measurement solutions, Endress+Hauser Canada Ltd. is undertaking actions to boost female representation in its workforce. The company and other global affiliates are conducting an employee-led program to increase the participation of women at all levels. Endress+Hauser has formed Women’s Integrated Network (W.I.N.) committees to recruit and promote women, helping to sustain the organization’s exceptional innovative and entrepreneurial potential and encourage women to embark on STEM careers.

Meeting the targets for 2030

The Canadian affiliate is already meeting the corporation’s targets for female representation for 2030, which creates a unique opportunity for the W.I.N. initiative. This way, the Canadian program can align its goal in a way the reflects the country’s unique demographic makeup. “From a global perspective,” explains Canadian W.I.N. chairperson Dr. Zoe Reeve, “the W.I.N. program is focusing primarily on increasing female involvement and leadership in the company, whereas we in Canada want female empowerment, but also to increase the inclusiveness and diversity of our team.”

“Our work will be sensitive to gender issues, but not be solely about gender,” Dr. Reeve continues. “We want to nurture a corporate culture where it doesn’t matter which gender, race, or ethnicity you are, you will feel comfortable about joining and engaging with the rest of the team.”

The goal is to double the percentage of women in the global workforce to 40 per cent, with 28-30 per cent of those women in leadership positions. The Canadian W.I.N. initiative seeks to eliminate biases in hiring, training, and promotion while developing a mentoring program to help female employees embrace leadership and advancement. Another goal is to change the Endress+Hauser branding to reflect diversity.

The program also aims to reach out to university and college students, making them aware of STEM opportunities of which they may not be aware. In-person activities are expected to happen this autumn if COVID-19 restrictions ease; facility visits should ramp up when Endress+Hauser opens its new Customer Experience Centre in Burlington, Ont., measuring 47,000 square feet.

At Endress+Hauser Canada, female representation is becoming a higher priority as times change.
