device configuration tablets

Endress+Hauser’s robust, touch-enabled Field Xpert tablet PC (here: model SMT70 for Cl. 1 Div. 2) allows maintenance staff to manage virtually all digitally communicating E+H and other field instruments.

A leader in measurement instrumentation, Endress+Hauser Canada Ltd. is always developing innovative products, like its Field Xpert tablet PCs. These award-winning device configuration tablets were developed primarily for use in hazardous work zones, but are equally useful in non-hazardous areas of the same facilities. Available in two models, they provide fast, efficient, one-click mobile-device configuration and plant-asset management.

2018 Product of the Year

Plant Engineering magazine recognized one of these device configuration tablets, the SMT70 for Class 1, Division 2 environments, with its Product of the Year award for 2018. The other model, the SMT77, is suitable for Class 1, Division 1 zones. Both of these robust, touch-enabled Field Xpert tablets allow maintenance staff to manage virtually all digitally communicative field instruments throughout their entire life cycles.

These Endress+Hauser tablets are slim, lightweight for such reinforced construction, and intuitive to use. No assembly or preparation is necessary; both devices are ready for use right out of the package, giving users complete solutions for managing field instruments that save ample time and money. The tablets’ built-in automated hardware-detection capability ensures quick connections, and both versions have installed device-configuration software in 20 languages, including NAMUR NE 107 instrument diagnosis.

In addition, the SMT70 and SMT77 both have extensive, pre-installed driver libraries stored in them to cover all vital protocols while offering access to the Industrial Internet of Things and to device data and documentation. The tablets automatically update all DTMs and software regularly to make sure that maintenance teams have top connectivity when they need it.

Field Xpert device configuration tablets offer highly versatile ways to perform device configuration. They support multiple communication technologies, such as HART, Profibus DP/PA, Foundation Fieldbus, Modbus, and EtherNET/IP. Users can achieve device connectivity point-to-point, over digital networks, or via marshalling cabinets, remote I/Os and gateways.

Both Field Xpert tablets are easy to work with. The SMT70 weighs 1.2 kilograms and has an 11.6-inch display and a battery runtime of up to 14 hours; the SMT77 weighs 2.3 kilograms, with a 10.1-inch display and a battery runtime of up to five hours.
