The Promass Q 300/500 Coriolis flowmeter series from Endress+Hauser has added breakthrough four-tube technology and larger sizes, making it ideal for new roles in oil and gas measurement.

The Promass Q 300/500 series of high-tech Coliolis flowmeters for demanding fluids has just been upgraded by its manufacturer, the Endress+Hauser Group: it now features breakthrough four-tube technology. This expands its range of applications in the oil and gas sector; each unit can serve as a highly accurate duty meter for custody transfer and fiscal metering or as a precision reference device for onsite verification measurements. In addition, these flowmeters now accommodate three larger pipe sizes – DN 150 (six inches), DN 200 (eight inches), and DN 250 (ten inches).

Much higher flow rates

Four-tube measurement enables up to 25 per cent higher flow rates than found in Coriolis flowmeters with two measuring tubes, which accelerates transactions and saves costs. It lowers standstill times for loading and unloading oil tankers, which leads to reduced charges. Unwanted pressure loss is far less significant in pumping or measuring applications, so facility operators can save electricity costs by using smaller pumps. The lower pressure loss also avoids cavitation effects and gas breakout.

Measurement accuracy is crucial in the production, transportation, storage, and selling of crude oil, natural gas, and hydrocarbons; any error can lead to enormous shortfalls. Current Promass Q instruments from Endress+Hauser offer low pressure loss and high accuracy for all flow rates, but adding four-tube technology and expanding the pipeline measuring range means that more users can benefit from attributes like the following: measuring accuracy of plus or minus 0.05 per cent o.r., tested on various external, accredited calibration facilities; top density measuring accuracy of plus or minus 0.3 kilograms per cubic metre; and outstanding turndown and zero point stability.

The Promass Q series records density and process temperature too, to allow the incorporation of fluctuating process and ambient conditions into measurement. The flowmeters are available in stainless steel and in IP66/67 models, for reliable, low-maintenance, long-term function in process temperatures from -196 to 205 degrees Celsius. With its SIL-compliant device development, this series is suitable for safety-related applications, with several certifications for hazardous areas. Other user advantages include WLAN for wireless operation, HistoROM, and Heartbeat Technology.
