The grand opening on May 10

The new Customer Experience Centre by Endress+Hauser Canada Ltd. has had its official opening. Located in Burlington, Ont., about 50 kilometres southwest of Toronto, this $28 million facility is one of the country’s greenest commercial buildings, designed to be energy-autonomous and carbon-dioxide-neutral. At 4,400 square metres, it’s double the size of the company’s previous building around the corner. It houses a process training plant, large calibration laboratory, repair facility, offices, and recreational space.

Sustainability, energy efficiency as priorities

The Customer Experience Centre is designed to symbolize Endress+Hauser’s brand values and to reflect its continuing corporate growth – an example of the Swiss-based, family-owned company’s global strategy of cultivating and managing customer partnerships. The building also demonstrates the corporation’s commitment to good corporate citizenship and sustainability to customers, employees and the public.

Endress+Hauser focused on the needs of customers and associates in planning this project. The Customer Experience Centre will offer the best possible support to clients over the full lifespans of their systems, with an inviting environment and high standards for ecological building design. The building’s process training centre is the second of its kind in Canada, allowing customers to use pilot plant systems to practise operating a broad variety of measurement instrumentation in a hands-on manner. Visitors can simulate conditions like their own operating environments.

The company counts sustainability and energy efficiency as high priorities in its global construction projects. The new Customer Experience Centre uses more than 800 solar modules on the roof to cover its electricity needs; they can generate roughly 408,000 kilowatt hours of power per year, more than the company needs. The geothermal system draws heat from 50 wells at a depth of 180 metres and uses 63 heat pumps to distribute this heat throughout the building.

The Centre has south-facing windows in the upper floor to capture sunlight and a triple-glaze façade to prevent heat loss, plus a four-metre-high Ficus tree in the atrium to improve air quality – making it one of Canada’s greenest office buildings. Virtually all industries – from chemicals and metals to food and oil – will benefit from this new Centre.
