Matthias Altendorf, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group.

Since the 1950s, the Endress+Hauser Group has been a dominant international force in measurement and automation instruments. The corporation’s success continued last year, when it performed well across all fields of activity, industries, and regions. Endress+Hauser created hundreds of new jobs, invested record amounts, and improved in sustainability.

After a solid 2019, the company finds itself in a perfect position to stay successful this year – even in the face of COVID-19.

Broad-based and balanced growth

With the help of broad-based, balanced growth, Endress+Hauser boosted its net sales by eight per cent last year, up to €2.652 billion, in spite of a weakening global economy. The test and measurement specialist for process and laboratory applications relied on small and medium-sized projects, rather than large-scale orders, to drive this growth.

The company’s undiminished innovative spirit also contributed to its 2019 success: Endress+Hauser filed 318 patent applications and invested 7.6 per cent of sales in research and development. It finished the year with 14,328 employees after creating 400 new jobs. More than 1,100 employees are currently working on new measurement and automation instruments.

Endress+Hauser also progressed in sustainability. The company scored 72 points in the annual EcoVadis audit, an improvement of four over 2018, which placed it in the top two per cent of its comparison group. The corporation also reduced its carbon-dioxide emissions by more than one-third by switching to green electricity in production. Here in Canada, Endress+Hauser has begun construction on a new energy self-sufficient customer experience and training centre, near its national headquarters in Burlington, Ont.

While the company began 2020 with an increase in incoming orders for measurement and automation instruments, the pandemic has complicated its attempts to achieve its original goals. But Endress+Hauser responded early to the Coronavirus crisis, doing what it could to protect its employees’ health while offering solid support to customers worldwide. The company bridges physical distance through digital means, with more than 10,000 personnel working from home.

In these ways, Endress+Hauser is prepared to meet these challenging times and emerge from the COVID-19 situation as successful as ever.
