Endress+Hauser’s FMG50 is the only 2-wire radiometric measurement instrument that doesn’t require an external power supply.

The newest technological solution from Endress+Hauser Canada Ltd. is the Gammapilot FMG50 compact transmitter, which revolutionizes radiometric measurement in difficult conditions. This unit breaks new ground by incorporating a two-wire transmitter that requires less energy than its predecessor, the Gammapilot FMG60, did for the same measurement performance. Past radiometric transmitters needed external power supplies, which increased their cost and complexity, but the FMG50 offers many advantages in its unprecedented design.

Product of the Year

The China International Industry Fair chose the Gammapilot FMG50 as its Product of the Year for 2020. This device expands on the success of the FMG60, which was the company’s first multi-function transmitter, by adding new enhancements in level measurement for liquids or solids in reactors, autoclaves, and other process vessels. The FMG50 uses a patented high-voltage generation to overcome the previous product’s limitations, with two-wire connectivity that supplies signal and adequate power on its own. This is a key benefit for measuring points in hazardous zones or remote areas.

This compact transmitter provides amazing safety benefits and reliability, plus intelligent, advanced functionality. It conducts density and interface measurements and is perfect for applications in which corrosion, abrasion, viscosity, or toxicity makes other measuring principles unsuitable. Endress+Hauser recommends the FMG50 for use in mining, metals, oil and gas, cement, and chemicals.

The power technology reduces installation and energy expenses, while maintenance is safer and easier. Radiometric measurement is conducted outside the vessel being analyzed. Maintenance with other two- or four-wire gamma transmitter technology involves disengaging and securing the external power supply against accidental activation, rendering the measurement functions temporarily inoperable. But the intrinsically safe ex-concept of this compact transmitter enables safe maintenance work even during measuring tasks. The interchangeable data module makes replacement fast and easy, with no re-parametrization or re-calibration required.

The Gammapilot FMG50 has no restrictions even when high temperature and pressure are present, and operators can communicate with the sensor with Bluetooth technology and Endress+Hauser’s own SmartBlue app. Users can access all product and diagnostic data at safe distances from measuring point in inaccessible or dangerous work environments.
