The Memosens CCS5D1 free chlorine sensor (second component from the left) from Endress+Hauser provides fast, stable and highly precise measurement, which makes it an indispensable part of an effective Disinfection System (pictured).

An unmatched range of test and measurement instrumentation is available from Endress+Hauser Canada Ltd., including the Memosens brand of sensors. The company’s latest development is the new Memosens CCS51D chlorine sensor. Ideal for keeping drinking, process, or pool water safe and clean, this device offers fast, stable, and extremely precise measured values, even at low water volumes. This is essential for protecting people from illness or for preventing system damage.

A special membrane design

Because of its easy handling, the strong disinfecting power, and the residual effect, free chlorine is the most important disinfectant in water treatment. Overdosing not only can have toxic results; it also wastes a lot of money. Only the Memosens CCS51D has the quick, sensitive measuring capability to achieve precise dosing control for free chlorine. The special membrane design of this chlorine sensor assures an extremely fast response time. This helps facility operators run their disinfection processes within tight limits and using only the minimum amount of chemicals that they need.

Endress+Hauser has imbued a convex membrane made of dense, dirt-repellent material into this robust chlorine sensor to prevent soiling and resist biofouling. The ultrasonic welding of the membrane to the sensor cap ensures its integrity, which stops dilution of the electrolyte and drifting of the measuring signal. This results in long-term stable measurements and assures water-plant managers that the disinfection process is running smoothly, achieving the required disinfection outcome.

The CCS51D is equipped with proven Memosens technology, which enables direct commissioning of new sensors without further calibration. Plant operators can pre-calibrate sensors in the laboratory and swap them into the process via plug and play during ongoing operation, for quicker measurement. Non-contact data transmission eliminates measurement errors and failures due to humidity or corrosion.

The disinfection effectiveness of free chlorine depends highly on the pH value. It is important to integrate a pH measurement into all disinfection processes with free chlorine. Users can install the CCS51D on a Flowfit CCA250 flow assembly together with Memosens pH sensors for pH compensation.

Once again, Endress+Hauser creates the perfect solution for every application.
