When manufacturers require material lifting solutions, many turn to Engineered Lifting Systems & Equipment (ELS) for its high-quality products and superior service.

One manufacturer of compressors for natural gas distribution required a transfer cart for a paint booth it had purchased for one of its production facilities. The booth system actually came with a transfer cart to transport product from the wash down area to finishing. However, the cart had deflection issues, caused damage to the floor and was not performing in the capacities required. Plus, the chemical solutions used in the wash down were causing corrosion damage to the cart. The company was looking for an alternative transfer cart that could withstand the harsh environment and travel easier on the floor surface by equally loading the casters while remaining rigid under all loading conditions.

A towable transfer cart with a 50-ton capacity — engineered, manufactured and installed by ELS — was the perfect solution because it met all of the company’s requirements. The cart’s design allows it to be towed behind an aircraft tugger, and it’s movement is guided by floor-embedded S-shaped channels.

The cart features six stainless steel swivel casters that mount to three bogeys. Two bogey axles are mounted in-line with the travel direction and one bogey axle is mounted perpendicular to travel.

The transfer cart was shipped to the customer’s facility in four sections, and bolted together on-site. The final assembly deck size spanned 16 feet wide by 24 feet long, and features heavy-duty galvanized deck grating that permits nozzles to spray from below the cart. The deck’s six-inch raised middle section allows product attachments to hang below. It also features access stairs on both ends, allowing workers to step onto the cart.

ELS products are engineered solutions manufactured by the Elmira, Ont.-based company and sourced from trusted suppliers. ELS holds a Certificate of Authorization from the Professional Engineers of Ontario and has licensed professional engineers on staff.
