Manufacturers of electric and hybrid drives are challenged with improving the efficiency of inverters, motors and drive trains. The standard testing method is time consuming and prone to errors, as it does not acquire mechanical and electrical parameters simultaneously, continuously and dynamically. But there is now a more efficient testing method thanks to HBM. Its eDrive testing optimizes electric drive testing with an all-in-one solution.

An integrated approach

The new HBM testing system features the GEN3i data recorder and T40B torque transducer. The GEN3i recorder provides maximum sampling rates and continuous direct-to-disk storage of 200 MB/sec, and it can easily be configured to meet the user’s needs. Its ability to continuously record all raw data allows for a detailed analysis of inverter and electric motor. In addition, the torque transducer enables digital measurement, which eliminates analog errors.

Combined, these components help users better understand the inverter and electric motor, making conversion and regenerative braking more efficient. The all-in-one system offers perfectly matched components from a single source, covering electrical signals up to 1,000 volts, as well as mechanical signals and temperatures.

The eDrive testing offers many advantages over the standard approach. It enables continuous storage of all raw data for verification and analysis, synchronous data acquisition, data storage in a standardized system and more.

The result is a system that can perform highly dynamic and precise tests on inverters and electric motors, and enables continuous measurement up to an hour and a maximum of two million measurements per second per channel.

Another bonus: the system is easy to use thanks to its award-winning software, which incorporates an application-oriented user interface.

Available in Canada

The new HBM testing system is available from Durham Instruments, a Pickering, Ont.-based supplier of measuring instruments. Durham Instruments carries a wide selection of products from HBM and many other top manufacturers.
