ECOM's TAB EX 01 tablet for Zone 2/Division 2

A member of the Pepperl+Fuchs family, ECOM Instruments manufactures great solutions for hazardous work conditions, available in Canada through Process Instruments and Components Inc. (PIC). ECOM’s portfolio includes several designs of explosion-proof tablets, such as three designs of the TAB-EX 01 series – which is available for Windows or Android.

ECOM is already renowned as an expert in explosion-proof tablets, as the TAB-EX 01 series includes the world’s first Zone 1/21, Division 1 tablet computer.

A wide range of applications

When workers carry electronic devices into potentially explosive environments, even devices that are switched off, safety is a top priority. Any fault could cause a disaster, even with Zone 2 equipment. So these ECOM devices are a necessity.

TAB-EX 01 tablets are lightweight and compact instruments that operate on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop (optionally 4.4.4 KitKat). They are designed for multiple mobile worker roles in a wide range of applications, like asset surveys, material tracking, operator rounds, inspection, and maintenance. Each has an eight-inch capacitive multi-touch screen with high shock and scratch resistance, allowing standard desktop applications to become mobile in hazardous work conditions. Workers can view and interact with SCADA/DCS systems, enterprise systems like SAP or Maximo, and computer-aided design systems.

These explosion-proof tablets also offer a full range of wireless capability, which enables the capture of equipment defects during inspection and maintenance work, making them immediately visible to workers who must diagnose issues and decide on follow-up action. Other features include the following:

  • Optional three-MP rear camera with torch, flash, and barcode scanner capability and 1.3-MP front camera;
  • 4,450-mAh Li-Ion battery;
  • Compatibility with Bluetooth 4.0 Smart;
  • High-visibility display in direct sunlight;
  • USB 2.0 connectivity with unique robust magnetic connector; and
  • Certification according to ATEX, IECEx, and NEC requirements.

PIC supplies all three TAB-EX 01 models; one for Zone 1/21 and Division 1, one for Zone 2/Division 2, and one for Division 2. All three are customer-focused solutions that offer higher ease of use to mobile workers in oil and gas, refining, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and other industries with explosion risks.
