The QC216 pump from Q-Pumps

Q-Pumps fluid-handing solutions are available in Canada from York Fluid Controls Ltd., with a portfolio that includes the QC/QC+ series of easy-assembly centrifugal pumps. Designed for sanitary and non-sanitary applications in the food-processing and agrochemical industries, these two series work with pressures as high as 117 pounds per square inch.

The QC/QC+ series can handle flows of up to 4,542 litres per minute, pressure loads up to 82 metres, temperatures as high as 120 degrees Celsius, and viscosity of 600 centipoise.

Two kinds of external seal

With an exclusive design, the QC+ model meets 3-A sanitary standards, and any of the QC models can be easily converted into a QC+ version with a Kit plus. The QC+ series facilitates and streamlines the assembly of the QC pumps, and it provides higher efficiency and stronger impeller support with a wedge and a nut.

Among the features of these pump series are an open impeller, scroll casing with suction in the centre, sanitary finish according to standards 3-A certified 1004, stainless steel support set and legs, stainless steel adapter, and clamp, flange, NPT, welding, bevel-seat, DIN, and SMS connections. These pumps from York Fluid Controls are built according to NEMA and IEC standards and can function in 60 or 50 hertz. Motor options include TEFC, washdown-duty, chemical-duty, and stainless steel enclosures. All of the components in contact with the pumps are made of T316L stainless steel.

There are two kinds of external seal available, a balanced and a stationary one. The “D” type, or balanced seal, suits many applications and has a long lifespan. Among its uses are for dairy products, corn oils, tomato juice, drinks, and water, plus acidic cleaning solutions and detergent. This seal is not recommended for abrasive or corrosive products, or ones with which drying forms layers.

The “DG” type is a long-lasting, stationary external seal with the standard rotary parts of the “D”, plus a stationary element to be selected from silicon carbide, ceramic, tungsten carbide, and other materials. It can be used with liquid sugar and, with the right elastomers, abrasive or corrosive material like acid or caustic soda.
