In many industries, workers need to measure angular rates and velocities, but applications vary widely and specific kinds of measuring instruments may be required. That is why Measurement Specialties manufactures eight models of angular rate gyros to suit different applications. These accurate, innovative rate sensors are all available in Canada via Durham Instruments.

The measurement of angular rates is a necessary application in a number of Canadian sectors. These include aerospace, automation, forestry, education, general manufacturing, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, transportation, and research and development.

Measurement Specialties rate sensors include:

• 11206AC. Rugged uni-axial angular rate gyro that measures accurately under various environmental conditions. Compact design houses a shielded 22 AWG cable and potted electronics, and the cubic shape enables mounting with the sensing axis in any direction.
• 11207AC. Similar to the 11206AC, but built specifically for harsh working conditions.
• 31206B. A tri-axial rate gyro that senses angular rate around three orthogonal axes, with each axial sensor capable of operating in temperatures from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. Optional fully-temperature-compensated analog outputs for all three axes. Range from plus/minus 50 to plus/minus 600 degrees per second.
• 31207B. Similar to the 31206B, but with a range from plus/minus 1,000 to plus/minus 1,200 degrees per second.
• 603. Small, lightweight tri-axial sensor for high-impact testing, packaged in a shock-resistant housing built for automotive safety, bio-mechanics, aerospace testing, and other critical measurement tasks. Uses silicon MEMS sensing elements with custom electronics in ranges from plus/minus 500 to plus/minus 24,000 degrees per second.
• 620. Compact analog gyroscope for system designs that require accurate angular-velocity measurement, like automotive safety testing. Silicon MEMS sensing elements for reliable performance even in environments with extreme shock and vibration.
• 633. Analog sensor with outputs of three gyroscope/rate sensors and three DC accelerometers, built to withstand harsh environments with high shock.
• GY407D. The first rate gyro of its kind, able to support SCPI-like commands, return information in engineering units, and operate with an ASCII terminal emulator. Users can configure the output.
