Ohio Broach & Machine Company has more than 55 years of experience engineering broaching machinery and tooling. The company’s expertise includes the design and manufacture of dual ram vertical broaching machines.

Key details

Ohio Broach can produce dual ram vertical broaching machines in capacities ranging from five to 15 tons, and strokes from 48 to 72 inches. These machines feature hardened and ground steel ways, which are composed of high carbon steel, hardened and tempered, then ground to closely controlled tolerances. This provides a long service life and durability.

These machines also feature precise ram slides, manufactured from close-grain, high-tensile, cast-iron material. The slide surfaces are hand-scraped for a precise fit, and then flaked for maximum lubrication penetration. In fact, all heavy-duty models have a pressurized, individual point lubrication system with low reservoir level indication, anti-start interlocking, and high pressure indication for detecting an impaired normal flow condition.

Another feature is the high-performance, fixed-displacement vane pump that is incorporated into each unit in conjunction with other high-performance valves and controls, resulting in a reliable, industrial “open-loop” drive system design.

In addition, these units feature a compact design. The ram slide and table sub-assemblies are mounted on a rigid base weldment. The lower portion serves as a coolant reservoir for the machine. This enables the unit to take up a minimum of expensive plant floor space.

Multiple options

These heavy-duty machines can be produced with different table types. Though the standard model comes with a platen, non-moving table, other options are available. For example, a tip back table that tilts the work-holding fixture back 35 degrees from horizontal is available, as well as an infeed shuttle table that moves in and out on a horizontal plane so that the machine can make repeated passes until a predetermined depth of cut is obtained. A combination of both optional table types is also available, giving users a versatile design.
