Union Process manufactures eight versions of the SD dry grinding attritor.

Food processing is an industry that relies on industrial equipment for handling, measuring, blending, and milling food products. Firing Industries is a top Canadian distributor of machinery and accessories for this sector, including grinding attritors from Union Process.

Union Process’ SD Series of dry grinding attritors is an ideal pick for milling foods, either continually or in batches. Available in eight distinct models, these attritors are ruggedly built machines with two-speed, high-starting torque motors, jacketed, stainless steel tanks, and tilting mechanisms that simplify maintenance.

Strong enough to tackle all products

Although highly recommended for food-processing applications, the SD Series is also strong enough for a wide range of other products, especially dispersion-strengthened metals, as well as laboratory testing. Ceramic powders, glass frits, metal oxides, pigments, minerals, coal, chemicals, graphite, plastic, and rubber are among the materials that these attritors can handle.

Users can outfit each SD attritor for continuous applications or batches, whichever is more convenient. In continuous mode, workers feed material into the vessel at the top, and then the product migrates through the agitating media bed; there, the attritor processes the material into a selected particle size and discharges it through metering bar grids at the bottom. An attritor set to batch mode charges material into the top mill, grinds it for a pre-set period of time, and discharges it through the bottom grids. Users can also seal the system to grind material under nitrogen, argon, or other inert gases.

Union Process manufactures eight different versions of the SD dry grinding attritor, each with different specifications and features. They range from nine to 288 gallons in gross tank volume, two to 125 gallons in material capacity, five to 187 gallons in media volume, five to 200 horsepower, and two to 3.45 metres in height.

The SD-30, for example, has a sealed cover with a ceramic-lined tanks, zirconium-oxide-sleeved arms, and explosion-proof electricals. The SDL-50 includes a special cover with a brush seal and vent, plus a metering discharge valve assembly.
