riveting compression tools

Desoutter manufactures a wide range of riveting compression tools.

Dobco Equipment remains Canada’s best source for Desoutter pneumatic industrial tools, which have been renowned for more than 100 years for their innovations, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Desoutter’s lineup includes a complete range of pneumatic compression tools for various applications, and among the most useful of these are riveting compression tools.

Dobco’s inventory of Desoutter riveting compression tools includes squeezers, sheet metal punches, edge formers, and riveting hammers. Accessories are also available.

Selecting the proper tool

Standard Desoutter riveting compression tools come in five basic designs: alligator jaw with single or tandem cylinder, C-yoke with single or tandem cylinder, and pneumatic C-yoke. These tools come with five-millimetre (mm) rivet set shanks and are now available with adjustable rivet set holders. Capacities range from 2.4 to 7.1 mm for light tools and 1.6 to 6.4 mm for hard tools. Maximum force ranges from 1,800 to 13,500 pounds; standard yoke dimensions go from 38.1 to 232 mm for reach and 17 to 38.1 mm for closed height.

Dobco also carries nearly two dozen sizes of Desoutter squeezers, with either C-yokes or alligator jaws. These robust, reliable tools have an excellent power-to-weight ratio and offer a fast or slow approach. Choosing the right tool for every application is a must, and Desoutter offers a simple four-step process for selection of squeezers:

  1. Rivet diameter. Check the material diameter of the rivet being used.
  2. Application. Be sure of the task’s accessibility and specifications.
  3. Selection. Choose the squeezer with the required power and design.
  4. Rivet set and shims. Select the right rivet set shank, type, and length.

Also available: more than two dozen sizes of rivet sets (cupped, flush, or soft); sheet metal punches, with a punching capacity of 4.8 mm and actuation throttle guards; edge formers, for flattening spot-welded flanges and removing bends; and a wide range of riveting hammers for all applications. These hammers have progressive triggers for better user control and are ergonomically designed for higher comfort. Selecting the proper hammer type involves a similar process: rivet material, application accessibility, and tool and set selection.
