Dobco supplies the Desoutter 214 riveter series.

Dobco Equipment Ltd. collaborates with an unparalleled range of renowned manufacturers to supply an unmatched selection of power tools to Canadian businesses. A key example is Desoutter Industrial Tools, based in France and a major force in this field for more than a century. Desoutter’s broad portfolio includes many tapping and riveting options – such as the 214 series of compression riveters, available in ten distinct models with different-sized components.

Four steps of tool selection

The manufacturer has designed a complete range of these riveting tools, particularly for use in the aerospace and automotive sectors. These units come with a robust and reliable design, an excellent power-to-weight ratio, and a fast and slow approach. In addition, this series is available with either an alligator jaw or a C-Yoke.

To select the appropriate model among these compression riveters, Desoutter suggests using a simple four-step approach:

  1. Rivet. Determine the appropriate material and diameter.
  2. Application. Determine accessibility and the customer specification.
  3. Select the tool. Choose the riveter based on the power required, whether a C-Yoke or alligator jaw is suitable, and the gap and reach figures.
  4. Select rivet set and shims. This includes rivet set shank, rivet set type, and rivet set length.

Both the alligator and the C-Yoke models of the 214 series of compression riveters are available from Dobco. Regarding the C-Yoke tools, throat gaps range from 32 to 44 millimetres (mm), while lower offsets go from five to eight mm, total yoke gaps run from 32 to 44 mm, closed heights range from 17 to 20 mm, and reach goes from 38 to 50.8 mm. For the alligator models, throat gaps run from 38 to 54 mm, lower offset is consistently 5½ mm, total yoke gaps range from 41 to 54 mm, closed height is consistently 22 mm, and reach goes from 38 to 76 mm.

New adjustable rivet set holders are available for both the C-Yoke and alligator models. Each also comes with a five-mm rivet set shank. The 214 series includes options with single and tandem cylinders too.
