Densyl Mastic

Densyl Mastic by Denso has many convenient uses.

Pipeline and infrastructure companies rely on the diverse product range from Denso North America. Along with petrolatum tape systems, liquid coatings, road-repair solutions, and more, Denso offers the Densyl Mastic brand. This product is typically used to contour flanges, couplings, valves, and irregular surfaces – but is also highly recommended for the sealing of cable ducts in concrete and in waterproofing applications.

Sealing against gas, water, more

Densyl Mastic is a cold-applied, self-supporting mastic, a petrolatum compound that contains inert siliceous fillers and vegetable fibres. It is often used for sealing, filling, and caulking applications that require protective, waterproof, and non-setting mastics, and customers also choose it to contour tank bases and profile irregular surfaces. Users apply this mastic before tape applications, generally in conjunction with primer, petrolatum tape, or bituminous tape. Their high sealing power is perfect for workers who need to seal cable ducts in concrete and/or protect them from moisture.

Among the major features of this mastic from Denso:

  • Excellent sealing properties;
  • No volatile organic compounds;
  • Ability to adhere to metal, PVC, polyethylene, and concrete;
  • Resistance against water, acid, and salt;
  • Simple application;
  • Inertness and environmental stability;
  • Minimal surface preparation;
  • Compliance with the AWWA C217 standard; and
  • Compliance with CSA Group’s CSA Z245.30 standard.

This product also has a specific gravity of 1.39, a specific volume of 720 cubic centimetres per kilogram, a flash point of higher than 180 degrees Celsius, and a maximum service temperature of 90 degrees Celsius.

To apply Densyl Mastic on metal surfaces, the user must begin by removing all loose scale, rust, or other foreign matter from the surfaces to prepare them, according to SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning” or SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning”. A high-pressure water wash also works, as long as the pressure falls between 3,000 and 7,000 pounds per square inch. Next, a thin film of appropriate primer should be applied to the surface, before the user moulds the mastic to a rounded configuration to fill irregular shapes and reduce all sharp-edged surfaces.
