low-temperature petrolatum tape

The City of Barrie, Ont. has a perfect success rate with Denso LT tape.

For 90 years, municipalities across the continent have chosen Denso North America to provide the best infrastructure solutions. A popular choice in Ontario is the company’s low-temperature petrolatum tape, or Denso LT tape. This product offers many protective functions, including waterproofing: many municipalities trust this tape to block water and air from contacting buried structures. LT tape is also highly recommended for wrapping catch basins, chambers, and underground concrete structures.

Fast and easy to apply

The City of Barrie, Ont. offers proof of LT tape’s superiority; the municipality has trusted in this solution on underground structures for roughly 15 years. Barrie officials report a 100 per cent success rate with this tape, which is quicker and easier to apply than other options are. Its longevity makes it a very cost-efficient way to prevent ingress, infiltration, and road material loss.

Water infiltration of concrete structures can result in loss of road material and subsequent potholes, structure erosion and failure, or ingress and infiltration into sanitary systems, resulting in needless treatment of groundwater. Denso low-temperature petrolatum taps prevents these issues. Users can apply it to seal structures, keeping them waterproof even when underlying concrete cracks.

The process of applying low-temperature petrolatum tape is simple. After removing it from the package, the user wraps the tape spirally from six inches below the first joint with a 55 per cent overlap, wrapping upwards to create a down-shingle effect. The tape is then smoothed and pressed to bond it intimately with the surface and prevent air pockets. Then users can back-fill the structure immediately, since the tape needs no curing time.

The tape’s flexibility will allow it to remain an effective means of keeping water from infiltrating when the risers crack. As the tape bonds to itself strongly, users can press down any folds or creases, which creates a complete seal to the tape itself and the structure. On chambers and catch basins, the LT tape covers the entire structure, or the specific joints that need protection.

For larger structures, workers can also use Denso Hi-Tack primer and Hi-Tack tape.
