colourized petrolatum tape

Denso ColorTape works all the year 'round.

Every season of the year requires its own anti-corrosion and sealing solutions. Denso North America offers Denso ColorTape – a unique, colourized petrolatum tape designed specially to withstand extreme temperature variations as it protects underground pipes, in addition to hoses and hydraulic fittings on road-salting trucks, loaders, plows, and other equipment.

Municipal fleet operations, heavy-equipment owners, and pipeline companies count on Denso ColorTape for long-term protection for pipes, flange, valves, and related surfaces.

Stable pigmented petrolatum compound

Manufactured with a stable pigmented petrolatum compound, this colourized petrolatum tape is grey in colour and built out of a non-woven synthetic fabric carrier. Denso recommends its ColorTape particularly for above-ground applications in which appearance is a factor. The tape can be easily applied in a wide range of temperatures, running from deep winter freeze to sweltering summer heat of up to 60 degrees Celsius. Another advantage of ColorTape is that water, acid, salt, and soil organics do not affect it.

Denso ColorTape conforms to irregular shapes and profiles. It can be applied on marginally prepared surfaces and cold, wet surfaces, and primer is not required. It also resists alkalies and ultraviolet rays, encapsulates lead paint, contains no solvents, and is ready for service right after application. The tape is compliant with the AWWA C217 and NACE RP0375-2006 standards.

For application of this colourized petrolatum tape, the first step is to remove all loose scale, rust, and other foreign matter from the surfaces; this must be done according to SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning” or SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning” or with high-pressure water from 3,000 to 7,000 pounds per square inch. Next, wrap the ColorTape spirally, with an overlap of a maximum of 25 millimetres. In severely corrosive environments, a 55 per cent overlap is recommended. During the wrapping stage, the user must press out all air pockets and smooth all lap seams. Large irregular surfaces many also require Densyl Mastic or Profiling Mastic.

The perfect Denso solution for year-round pipe, flange, and fitting protection, ColorTape is available in 7½-metre rolls in a variety of widths.
