petrolatum tape products

Denso provides anti-corrosion protection all the year round with Denso ColorTape.

One of Denso North America’s great petrolatum tape products is Denso ColorTape, which is specially designed to withstand extreme temperature variations. Manufactured with a stable pigmented petrolatum compound, it provides long-term corrosion protection to wet or dry pipes, flanges, valves, and related surfaces – especially in above-ground applications in which appearance is an important factor.

Workers can easily apply these unique petrolatum tape products in a wide range of temperatures, from arctic freeze to tropical heat. Denso ColorTape is not affected by water, acid, salt, or soil organics.

Can conform to irregular shapes

Denso ColorTape is made of a non-woven synthetic fabric carrier, completely impregnated with its stabilized pigmented compound and grey in colour. Among its features and benefits are the following:

  • Conforms to irregular shapes and profiles;
  • No primer required;
  • Can be applied on marginally prepared surfaces and cold, wet surfaces;
  • Resists ultraviolet rays;
  • No solvents;
  • Encapsulation of lead paint;
  • Ready for service immediately after application; and
  • Complies with the NACE RP0375-2006 and AWWA C217 standards.

Before applying these petrolatum tape products, users must prepare surfaces by removing all loose scale, rust, and other foreign matter; this must be done according to SSPC SP2 “Hand Tool Cleaning” or SP3 “Power Tool Cleaning”, or with high-pressure water from 3,000 to 7,000 pounds per square inch. The next step is to wrap the ColorTape spirally with a minimum overlap of 25 millimetres (mm); Denso recommends a 55 per cent overlap for severely corrosive environments. Workers should press out all air pockets and smooth all lap seams during the wrapping stage. For irregular surfaces like valves or flanges, Densyl Mastic or Denso Profiling Mastic may be necessary.

Denso ColorTape is available in a variety of widths, all in 7.5-metre rolls. It can function in temperatures of up to 60 degrees Celsius and resists alkalies as well as acid, salt, and UV rays. Infrastructure crews can rely on this petrolatum tape for pipe and flange protection all the year round.
