N.R. Murphy offers cyclone dust collectors.

N.R. Murphy Limited specializes in manufacturing a wide spectrum of air-quality equipment for workplace environments. These solutions work for applications ranging from mild breathing hazards to extreme dust levels; for the latter, the company makes cyclones, which are ideal for sawmills and woodworking facilities. Each cyclone offers a simple, economical way to separate dust from air in medium-to-coarse worksites. These devices are most essential for forestry operations, which need powerful equipment to collect the large amounts of dust they spill into the air.

Blending gravity with centrifugal action

Cyclones are available in a variety of sizes and manufactured out of various materials. Customers can use them as standalone air/material separators or in conjunction with other dust collectors, and they can also function as primary separators to provide sizing or classification of materials. Many industries use cyclones as primary separators that function ahead of other dust collectors, blending gravity with centrifugal action to achieve dust collection and separation. They are designed with higher efficiency on small dust particles, along with more updated features.

Because cyclones come with different specifications, customers should consult the supplier’s technical representatives to choose the most suitable designs and construction materials for their specific needs – particularly for applications involving severe abrasion or corrosion. N.R. Murphy recommends collecting a sample of the dust in the environment, as density, concentration, velocity, and specific gravity affect cyclone performance.

There are three standard construction designs available. Standard cyclones are the most popular models and come in various sizes. They suit coarse sawdust and shavings or materials with few extreme fines. Long cone spirals and skimmers can be added. Chip cyclones have short cone sections and are most recommended for heavy wood chips with minimal fines. High-efficiency models come in varying sizes for different capacities, from larger diameters to smaller units.

These rugged designs use heavy gauge carbon steel, abrasion-resistant steel, special alloys, and rubber linings. The standard design include heavy gauge wiped galvanized all-welded construction and painting in various colours.

N.R. Murphy typically pre-assembles cyclones before shipping them, for fast setup at the client’s facility.
