John Brooks Company developed a solution to mist beef patties more evenly.

For many years, John Brooks Company Limited has been solidifying its reputation in Canadian industry with a long history of customer success stories. One such case involved a beef-processing plant, located in Western Canada, which was having issues with a spray manifold on its beef-patty processing line. With the help of John Brooks Company’s engineering team, this manufacturer received a new, customized manifold that solved all of its problems and improved efficiency and product quality in the process.

A wider spray angle

This organization was using the spray manifold to mist water onto the beef patties before having them flash-frozen. But the manifold was no longer spraying the full width of the conveyor, and this led to inconsistent product quality and weight. A replacement was needed, one with a spray angle that would be wide enough to cover the whole conveyor without any overlap. This way, the flow could be kept the same, which would save water, and the impact would remain low, which would eliminate all product damage.

So the beef processor met with Jocsan Pinto, an application expert with John Brooks Company. After reviewing the application, Pinto worked with the engineering team to create a manifold that satisfied all of the customer’s needs while retrofitting the existing controller. The team used a custom misting manifold technology for the project, with a John Brooks Company custom-built, three-foot-long misting manifold with a one-inch SCH 40 pipe, made of 316 stainless steel and with fittings for simple installation and removal. The assignment also required four 303 stainless steel nozzle assemblies with a 60-degree flat fan spray pattern, all spaced apart equally for consistent, uniform misting.

To make the new system work, the crew mounted the manifold into the existing stainless steel box on the conveyor. The formed beef patties travelled along the conveyor under the manifold, on the way to the flash-freezing process. The custom system worked perfectly and is still in use today. John Brooks Company saved the day once again.
