The Cox Exact Dual-Rotor Turbine Flow Meter, manufactured by Badger Meter

The pinnacle of this technology is the Cox Exact Dual-Rotor Turbine Flow Meter. These exact turbine flow meters offer results that are impossible with standard single-rotor designs.

The hydraulically coupled helical dual-rotor design of these exact turbine flow meters results in top performance and other advantages.

No expensive manifold systems

This patented dual-rotor design extends the meter’s flow-measurement range with the high incidence angle on the second rotor. This results in turndowns ranging from 120:1 on the smallest meter to 500:1 on larger ones. With this high flow range, universal viscosity curves can blend over a 60:1 turndown range, and costly manifold systems are no longer required.

Other notable features and benefits of these exact turbine flow meters:

  • Helical rotor design. Exceptional response speed with less pressure drop.
  • High-performance ceramic ball bearings. These provide less friction and are usable in water and hydrocarbons.
  • High shock design. Internals are rigidly clamped against a step in the bore, with rod and nut torqued design.
  • Facility with NISTtraceable standards. Third-party audits ensure calibration uncertainty, while NVLAP-accredited primary-standards laboratory correlation verifies that all calibrators get the same results.
  • Cancellation of fluid swirl effects.

The device operates by passing the liquid being measured through the rotors, which rotate proportionally to the speed. The rotor blades move through a field created by the radio-frequency pickoffs, which transmit pulses to the meter electronics, which amplify the pulse output. The rotors become hydraulically couple by their counter-rotational direction, and the near-perpendicular flow path on the downstream blades increase the flow-measurement range.

This Cox meter is useful in many applications, including manufacturer flight and hydraulic component testing, precision industrial blending processes, engine test cells and test stands, precision flow monitoring, onboard aerospace and automotive testing, custody transfer, correlation standards, flow-transfer standard master meters, and custom flight or industrial manufacturer packaging.
