The Cox Exact Dual-Rotor Turbine Flow Meter, manufactured by Badger Meter

Durham Instruments serves Canadian businesses with measuring equipment from many internationally respected manufacturers. One of them, Badger Meter, reaches the pinnacle of turbine-meter technology with its Cox Exact Dual-Rotor Turbine Flow Meter. This turbine meter delivers results that are impossible with single-rotor designs; its hydraulically coupled helical two-rotor structure gives users top performance and an unmatched range of benefits.

Expanding the flow-measurement range

One advantage of this device’s patented dual-rotor design is that it expands the flow-measurement range with the high incidence angle on the second rotor. This results in turndowns from 120:1 to 500:1, depending on the size of the meter. With such a wide flow range, universal viscosity curves can blend over a 60:1 turndown range, and users often do no need more expensive manifold systems.

The swirl effects on the leading rotor have an opposite effect on the trailing rotor. By summing or averaging both rotors, this virtually cancels out rotor acceleration, which eliminates the need for flow straighteners. With flow straighteners, users can monitor the ratio of both rotors to determine bearing health. By combining the reduced-friction ball bearings with a unique embedded pickoff system that is impervious to vibration, the Exact Dual-Rotor design is perfect for onboard vehicle, flight, and critical applications.

Among the many benefits of this Cox turbine meter:

  • Better absolute accuracy, with wider UVC turndown ratios;
  • Cancellation of fluid swirl effects;
  • High speed of response, with lower pressure drop;
  • Rotor ratio diagnostics;
  • Less friction, enabling use in water and hydrocarbons; and
  • Internals rigidly clamped against a step in the bore, with rod and nut torqued design; and

The Cox Exact Dual-Rotor turbine meter is a versatile device that suits applications in many industries, including flight and hydraulic component testing, precision blending processes, engine test cells and test stands, precision flow monitoring, onboard aerospace and automotive testing, and custody transfer. Durham Instruments recommends it for use in general manufacturing, aerospace, automation, food processing, forestry, education, the medical field, the military, mining, packaging, power generation, alternative energy, transportation, and research and development.
