One of the most important factors to consider when choosing types of structures, equipment, and other materials in desalination plants is corrosion resistance. Surface-preparation options are often limited when determining the best way to protect structural steel in these facilities and other similar environments. The Denso CoverCoat system is perfect for protecting structural steel base plates, different types of connections, and other irregular surfaces, since they are genuinely surface-tolerant, unaffected by acid or salt, and very conformable to almost any surface.

The Denso team used the CoverCoat system for a customer with a desalination plant in 2019. First, the structural steel was blasted so that the effectiveness of this system could be monitored more effectively over the course of a year. Then the customer protected the structural steel column with a thin coat of Denso Primer D, Denso Ultraseal tape, bast coat, and Archco 15. Denso Hi-Tack primer, Denso Hi-Tack tape, Denso profiling mastic, D-14 scrim, base coat, and Archco 15 were used to protect the column base.

After a full year, the company removed every system to inspect the substrate. Both the column and the base were in pristine, near-white condition, even after experiencing harsh circumstances. The CoverCoat system is expected to provide more than 20 years of reliable anti-corrosion protection, with no maintenance required.
