Every high-quality product starts with an innovative design. L. & M. Precision Products Inc. knows this well. The Toronto-based company has been producing high-quality custom precision-machined products for customers across the globe for more than 50 years. This achievement is in large part due to its engineering experience and equipment capability to assist with the review and optimization of customer product design.

Three steps

L. & M.’s design process consists of three main steps.

Initial design: The process starts when clients provide an initial design and request a quote for a new custom product. The information required includes what the estimated annual usage of the product is.

Design and estimate: Next, L. & M.’s engineering and estimating teams review the design and, if necessary, provide feedback to the customer on how to reduce the cost to make the part. It is critical that L. & M. works closely with its customers on the design to optimize the functionality and cost-effectiveness of the part. The estimator then quotes the required lead time and pricing, and also identifies any deviations from the client’s initial design. If the design requires changes or additional specifications, this is also identified. Revised drawings are then sent to the client for approval prior to producing the part.

First article approval: A first article approval process is followed on all new production setups. A sample part can be provided to the client for confirmation prior to the full production run, if requested.

Production ready

Once the design process is complete, production can begin using state-of-the-art equipment at L. & M.’s 50,000-square-foot primary production facility in Toronto. It is this combination of design and production expertise that has earned L. & M. Precision Products a solid reputation as a top-tier producer of high-quality, precision-machined products and components over the last 50-plus years.
