weigh feeders

Weigh feeders are among Continental's offerings.

Conveyors are important to manufacturing operations these days, which is why Canadian businesses put their trust in Continental Conveyor. This company produces a stellar portfolio of material-handling equipment. The lineup includes weigh feeders, which are self-contained belt feeders with controlled drive systems, speed sensors, and integrators. These machines are constructed to operate in the shearing and wild-flow modes of weigh-feeding applications.

Recommendations according to customer needs

Continental Conveyor takes many essential factors into consideration when it recommends weigh-feeding equipment for specific applications, regardless of whether the customer intends to use it for shearing or for wild flow. Among these factors are material properties, accuracy requirements, pre-feed or hopper device characteristics, and physical and electrical requirements for the task. The company encourages potential customers to request the Continental weigh-feeder application form, which enables sales staff to evaluate every client’s needs and recommend an appropriate solution.

The company designs weigh feeders for shearing applications to meter exact bed depths of material from their hopper openings. This means Continental has to build both the mechanical components and the drives to handle the forces of shearing material from the openings. In wild-flow applications, a separate device – like a screw feeder, vibratory feeder, or rotary airlock – pre-feeds material into the weigh feeder’s inlet. To ensure that this process functions properly, Continental designs every weigh feeder to have sufficient material loading to meet wild-flow accuracy requirements.

Many sizes of weigh feeders are available, with belt widths from 45 to 152 centimetres. Numerous electrical, mechanical, structural, and weighing features are built into them, such as the following items:

  • Electrical – belt misalignment switches and zero-feed detector;
  • Mechanical – drive pulley, pillowblock bearings, drive and tail shafts, take-up frames, belting, chain drive, electric motor, vee plough, belt scraper, and scale quality idlers;
  • Structural – frame, shear gate, legs, calibration weight rack, head chute, tail pulley guard, enclosure panels, and infeed section. Optional “C” legs are also available, to open a side to allow removal of belts with minimal mechanical disassembly; and
  • Weighing – weighbridge and speed sensor.
