apron feeders

Apron feeders are among Continental Conveyor's many material-handling offerings.

For more than half a century, Continental Conveyor has provided top material-handling solutions across Canada. Its inventory consists not merely of conveyors; customers also count on the company to provide components like idlers, pulleys, and covers, plus reclaimers, stackers, and weighfeeders. Another important part of the Continental portfolio is apron feeders. These rugged pieces of equipment are made for feeding and conveying heavy, lumpy, or abrasive materials in harsh work environments.

Robust design for challenging conditions

These units have a robust design that enables them to handle many challenging workplace conditions that might damage other kinds of feeders. They consist of a long series of overlapping pans mounted on strands of chain, driven and tensioned by head and tail terminals supported by intermediate rollers. These components are all mounted on a rugged structural frame, which results in apron feeders that can perform well in very harsh environments. The feeders have three primary features: chains and rollers; sprockets and traction wheels, and cast manganese or fabricated pans.

Continental Conveyor is able and willing to design its apron feeders to meet the exact needs of any individual application. The company employs a team of experts that evaluates starting conditions, the characteristics of the conveyed material, the hopper configuration, and the loading and operating cycles to figure out the correct design of the pans, choose the appropriate size of chain, and select the perfect type of drive to fit the application. The team pays special attention to starting conditions and requirements in which its experience in handling a broad variety of materials is a major factor in creating the right feeder design.

In all conveying applications, Continental carefully considers material abrasiveness, temperature, and particle size in order to determine the best blend of pan speed, pan configuration, and material bed depth to offer minimum leakage and maximum component life. This goes for custom-designed apron feeders as well.

Whether it is handling extreme impacts from large, sharp lumps being loaded from distances or moving highly abrasive, hot, or otherwise difficult material, this equipment gets the job done right.
