They have three main features – chains and rollers, sprockets and traction wheels, and cast manganese or fabrication pans. Each individual unit consists of a long series of overlapping pans mounted on strands of chain, tensioned and driven by head and tail terminals that are supported by intermediate rollers. The components have been mounted on a rugged structural frame, so that the apron feeder can function properly in very harsh environments.
