Apron feeders are perfect for challenging conditions.

Conveyors, stackers, feeders, and more: this is the breadth of equipment that Continental Conveyor supplies for manufacturing facilities across the country. The company makes not only conveyors, but also components like idlers, pulleys, and covers. In addition, the Continental lineup includes industrial apron feeders, designed and built for challenging work conditions.

Apron feeders are rugged pieces of equipment intended for feeding and conveying heavy, lumpy, or abrasive material in harsh environments.

Overlapping pans mounted on chains

Continental’s industrial apron feeders can handle challenging workplace conditions that could damage other types of feeders, due to their robust design. They have three main features – chains and rollers, sprockets and traction wheels, and cast manganese or fabrication pans. Each individual unit consists of a long series of overlapping pans mounted on strands of chain, tensioned and driven by head and tail terminals that are supported by intermediate rollers. The components have been mounted on a rugged structural frame, so that the apron feeder can function properly in very harsh environments.

The team at Continental can and will design industrial apron feeders to meet the precise requirements of any unique application. This group of experts takes the time to evaluate staring conditions, the conveyed material’s characteristics, the hopper configuration, and the loading and operating cycles; this helps them determine the correct design of the pans, choose the right chain size, and select the appropriate type of drive to fit that application. With its ample experience in handling a wide range of materials, the Continental team always knows what starting conditions and requirements to focus on, in order to create the right feeder design.

Material abrasiveness, temperature, and particle size are the factors that Continental carefully considers in all conveying applications to figure out the optimal combination of pan speed, pan configuration, and material bed depth – resulting in minimal leakage and maximum component lifespan. Both standard and custom-designed apron feeders undergo this process.

Continental apron feeders always get the job done right, from handling extreme impacts from large, sharp lumps loaded from distances to hot, abrasive, or otherwise difficult materials.
