industrial weighfeeders

Weighfeeders are among Continental's offerings.

Although Canadian businesses have relied on Continental Conveyor Ltd. for various types of conveyors for close to six decades, the company manufactures and supplies other kinds of material-handling equipment. Among this impressive portfolio is a line of industrial weighfeeders. These are self-contained belt feeders with controlled drive systems, speed sensors, and integrators.

This weigh-feeding equipment is designed and built by the Continental team to function in the shearing and wild-flow modes of relevant tasks.

Appropriate solution for many needs

The Continental crew considers many important factors when recommending its industrial weighfeeders for specific applications, whether or not the customer needs one for shearing or for wild flow. These factors include material properties, accuracy requirements, pre-feed or hopper device characteristics, and physical or electrical requirements for the application. Continental encourages potential clients to request its weighfeeder application form, which allows sales staff to recommend the most appropriate solution based on the customer needs.

Weighfeeders are designed for shearing applications to meter exact bed depths of materials from their hopper openings. So Continental must build both the mechanical components and the drives to handle the forces of shearing material from the openings. In wild-flow tasks, a separate device (e.g., a screw feeder, vibratory feeder, or rotary airlock) pre-feeds materials into the weighfeeder’s inlet. The company designs each weighfeeder to have sufficient material loading to meed wild-flow accuracy requirements, to make sure this process functions properly.

Continental offers many sizes of industrial weighfeeders, with belt widths from 45 to 152 centimetres. They contain numerous electrical, mechanical, structural, and weighing features, including the following items:

  • Electrical features: belt misalignment switches and zero-feed detector.
  • Mechanical features: drive pulley, pillow-block bearings, drive and tail shafts, take-up frames, belting, chain drive, electric motor, vee plow, belt scraper, and scale quality idlers.
  • Structural features: frame, shear gate, legs, calibration weight rack, head chute, tail pulley guard, enclosure panels, and in-feed section; Continental also offers optional “C” legs, to open a side to allow removal of belts with minimal mechanical disassembly.
  • Weighing features: weighbridge and speed sensor.

Trust Continental for great results.
